Call Accounting

The MBG Enterprise Call Accounting solution is a hosted call accounting solution designed to process and chargeback large volumes of call detail records (CDR). This call accounting solution generates over 80 standard reports, along with targeted reports for financial officers that want to break down costs by department or dedicated hierarchies for chargeback, as well as apply mark-ups for billback.  For network managers, the system provides the ability to analyze call patterns and traffic to assit with network and capacity planning.  Department managers can easily search to find individual call records and benchmark their department against others in the organization.

Developed as a global call accounting solution, the MBG Enterprise Call Accounting solution can support any outbound/inbound call technology (VoIP, PBX, wireless, interoffice), providing CDR updates up to six times a day from any location that is being polled.  Thresholds and alarms are built into the system that notify managers when the configured criteria is met.  Additionally, the system can support multiple currencies and languages serving as a truly global solution

MBG Call Accounting Features

The Technology: How MBG Enterprise Call Accounting Works
To support the changing landscape of corporate communications, MBG incorporates numerous technologies to capture CDR information.

  1. PBX:  For calls made over traditional PBX’s, MBG utilizes polling devices made by Western Telematic, Inc. The devices (NetLink) connect directly to the PBX and then to either the Internet or to a dedicated phone line. The devices are then polled six (6) times per day by MBG. Once a location has been polled, the data is available in MBG’s applications within 5-30 minutes (depending on the size of the data load per site).
  1. VoIP: For corporate VoIP networks, MBG has developed software that is installed on the client workstation or server.  The software runs automatically and has the ability to recover data that is lost due to operating system failures or network outages. Files can be sent automatically to MBG via FTP and secured through industry standard encryption.  The MBG software works on most standard  VoIP systems including Cisco, Nortel, and Avaya.
  1. Wireless/Calling Card: MBG can incorporate call detail records from wireless devices through the various billing feeds that wireless carriers provide.  While the data is not in real-time, it provides managers with a complete view of their department’s overall telecom spend and wireless usage.

Reporting and Dashboards
The MBG Enterprise Call Accounting solution can generate over 80 standard reports that are aimed at transforming raw data into valuable information to assist managers and make more intelligent business decisions. A snapshot of these standard reports and graphs include:

Dashboards can be configured to each manager’s specific requirements.  For example, financial managers can view a dashboard that details the Top 10 users for each department or see the Top Countries called, while network engineers can view traffic reports and information on the types of technologies being utilized at each location (PBX traffic vs. VoIP traffic), along with trunk utilization for engineering.  From the dashboard reports, managers can drill into the detail behind the information for each graph or chart.

Rates and Billback
Once calls are polled, they can also be rated according to a set of defined rules. Examples include, calls to different regions, from different offices, which can all have different rates applied.  All rates, raw and net, are available online. This can also be applied for billback, where companies can mark up costs of calls for departments or clients.

MBG iTraffic - Call Traffic and Call Pattern/Transition Analysis
The MBG Enterprise Call Accounting solution uses MBG iTraffic, which provides call traffic analysis.  MBG’s iTraffic provides a monthly snapshot of every polled location, showing daily and hourly volumes, average call times, and top calling codes (NPA) called. Through this information organizations can conduct critical network and capacity planning to determine optimal bandwidth requirements and know when to migrate to different technologies.  Network managers and engineers can view data in a graphical format based on a wide range of criteria, including:

Analyzing call traffic is important to determine if traffic is being routed correctly.  With many companies migrating or utilizing MPLS networks, there are examples of where traffic is routed incorrectly to the wrong gateways, leading to network congestion and misuse.  iTraffic can help identify these instances and recommend changes to ensure call traffic is routed correctly.

Corporate Chargeback
One of the key features of the MBG Enterprise Call Accounting solution is the ability to charge back costs to dedicated costs centers.  Call detail  information is distributed accordingly to corporate hierarchies and accepts HR feeds to handle changes in the hierarchy as employees join or leave the organization.  MBG can also provide an interface to the G/L, uploading spend information each month.  Through this chargeback solution financial managers can instantly view telecom spend by department for comparison and quickly see who are the high cost users.

The MBG Enterprise Call Accounting solution is designed to be configured to alert managers when thresholds are met.  Thresholds examples include calls exceeding NN minutes or calls to predefined phone numbers (toll numbers).  The system can also be set to alert managers when employees call or receive calls from particular numbers.

Customer Support
MBG provides 24x5 and 12x2 customer support and works closely with clients on determining optimal traffic configurations.
